Meet the Owner
I am the owner and Director of Grace Caregivers, LLC. I am a native of South Carolina, I attended Irmo High School and Columbia College. I made a fateful decision in 2014 to leave the law field and work for my mother, Suzanna Thomas, taking on the role of caring for my 99-year-old grandmother. I became not only a caregiver for my grandmother, Bertie Maude Scragg, but a leader for my Mother as neither of us had ever cared for anyone with dementia.
In the beginning, Bertie Maude loved getting out of the house every day. Every week she would have her day of beauty, getting her hair styled and grabbing lunch with a friend. By caring for my grandmother I ultimately allowed my mother to continue working until her retirement at age 72 in 2016.
Ultimately, Bertie Maude passed away peacefully, in hospice, at home under my care in March 2017 at the fantastic age of 102. On the night of her death, as with anyone who has just lost someone significant in their life does, my mother and I discussed the future. A plan was born that night to start a company that the community desperately needed, to create a caregiving agency that shows compassion, strength, dignity, and accountability.
Grace Caregivers, LLC was born on a night that had a lot of tears but has now successfully completed a full year of business. Tragically and unexpectedly, my mother, Suzanna Thomas passed away in September 2017 before she could see the first official office location. Even though I have had a lot of grief over the 2017 year, I have single handily laid the groundwork of great company, that was founded by two women who were destined to help others in every way that they could.
Now, the company has grown to over 23 employees and have helped countless families in time of great need. Grace Caregivers has helped transition patients from rehabilitation facilities to home, working within home health agencies therapies to get the patient back on track for living an independent life. Grace Caregivers has also helped countless families who have faced Hospice with a loved one.
My name is Laura Munn and I am the Operations Director at Grace Caregivers, LLC. I have been in the health care field for almost 20 years. I have an extensive resume which includes private sitting, assisted living, and dementia care. Over the last 4 years, I worked as a Resident Care Coordinator for a local assisted living community until starting with Grace Caregivers in November 2019. It is a wonderful feeling knowing I get to be such a big part of my client’s life, while at the same time making sure they have the best quality of care. They become my family and it is honestly a pleasure caring for them. I believe I have found my home at Grace Caregivers. This company is truly in it for all the right reasons. I feel very blessed to be a part of such a wonderful company.
